Privacy Policy

This policy explains what AsianPinay (asianpinay.in.net) does with personal data, in plain language rather than legal padding. It is written with the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation in mind, and we apply the same standards to every reader regardless of where you live. For the purposes of that law, AsianPinay is the data controller for this site and can be reached at hello@asianpinay.in.net.

What we collect

Three things, and that is genuinely the list.

• Your email address, if you subscribe. If we run a newsletter sign-up and you fill it in, we hold the address you gave us and the date you subscribed. Nothing else — no name is required, no country, no phone number.
• Server logs. Like every website, our server records requests: an IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser’s user-agent string, and the referring page. These are a normal part of running and securing a site.
• Basic analytics. We may use a web analytics tool to see which pages get read and roughly where readers come from, at the level of country and page, not individuals. The site currently runs no advertising trackers, no ad networks, no retargeting pixels and no social media tracking scripts.

If you email us, we obviously hold that email and whatever you chose to put in it. Please do not send us passport numbers, bank details, remittance reference numbers or anything similar — we do not need them and we do not want to be holding them.

Why we are allowed to hold it — lawful basis

• Consent for the newsletter. You ask to receive it; you can withdraw at any time, and withdrawing is one click.
• Legitimate interests for server logs and aggregate analytics — keeping the site running, secure, and worth reading. We have weighed this against your privacy, which is why the data stays coarse and short-lived.
• Legal obligation where we are ever required to keep or produce records, which for a blog of this size is rare.

How we use it

Newsletter addresses are used to send the newsletter. That is all. We do not use them to build a profile of you, and we will not use them to sell you anything on someone else’s behalf.

Logs and analytics are used to fix errors, block abuse, and decide what to write next — if a post about remittance fees is being read a lot, we write more about remittance fees. We do not attempt to identify individual readers from this data and we have no interest in doing so.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We do not trade or rent mailing lists. Ever.

A small number of service providers necessarily process data on our behalf simply to make the site work: our web host, our email or newsletter delivery provider, and our analytics provider. They act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes. We will also disclose data if we are legally required to — a valid court order, for instance — and not otherwise.

How long we keep it

• Newsletter addresses: until you unsubscribe, or until the newsletter stops. Unsubscribing removes you from the sending list; we then delete the address rather than keeping a permanent suppression record unless we are obliged to.
• Server logs: a short rolling window, typically weeks rather than years, after which they are overwritten.
• Analytics: kept in aggregate. Aggregated figures are not personal data and may be retained.
• Emails you send us: kept while the conversation is useful — a correction thread, for example — then deleted.

Your rights

You can ask us to do any of the following, and it costs you nothing:

• Access — tell you what we hold about you.
• Correction — fix anything inaccurate.
• Deletion — erase what we hold, where we have no overriding reason to keep it.
• Restriction or objection — ask us to stop a particular use, including anything based on legitimate interests.
• Portability — receive your data in a usable file.
• Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, using the link in every issue or by emailing us.

Email hello@asianpinay.in.net and we will act within one month. If you are in the UK or EU and you think we have handled your data badly, you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right.

Cookies

The site uses only what it needs to function — essential cookies and similar local storage for things like remembering a display preference or keeping a form working. We do not set advertising cookies and we do not run cross-site tracking. If we ever add anything beyond essential cookies, we will ask for your consent first, through a banner you can decline without losing access to the content.

International transfers

Our readers are all over the world and so, inevitably, are our service providers. Data may therefore be processed outside your own country, including outside the UK and EEA. Where that happens we rely on providers offering recognised safeguards — an adequacy decision, or standard contractual clauses. Given how little we collect, the exposure is small by design.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the newsletter list and the site’s administration is limited to the people who run AsianPinay and protected by strong, unique credentials. No system is perfect, so we minimise what we hold in the first place — the safest data is the data we never asked for. If a breach ever affected your data, we would notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.

Children

This site is written for adults and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we will remove the address.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data — adding a newsletter tool, changing analytics — we will update this page and change the date shown on it. Material changes will be flagged clearly rather than slipped in.
